Nice to meet you.
I'm Sarmishta Pantham.
I started my career in the fashion industry over 12 years ago, as a Womenswear designer in India. I went on to study Graphic Design for my Masters in Los Angeles and soon after meandered into the digital design world in the Silicon Valley. My work now is an amalgam of exploring creative and analytical thinking, fueled by a fascination for media both tactile and digital from my experience in diverse design industries.
Besides my professional work, I am deeply passionate about children's education in India and constantly seek opportunities to learn from and engage with the cause of education for the underpreviliged. As a part of my Masters Thesis, I explored the role of design in shaping this education in a globalised world. The PRINT Magazine recognised my work as a New Visual Artist Winner in 2011.
I have deep respect for handmade craft, love the harmonic chaos of the Indian vernacular and have trained in the more structural Indian classical music. I also work with screen printing, ceramics, sketching, embroidery and cooking and enjoy exploring new media with every project. I am also intensely fascinated by food as a medium of expression and a catalyst that brings people together and have a growing body of explorations as I attempt to cross-pollinate food, design and culture in my journal Handful.
